“Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.”
Sacred Emily in Gertrude Stein's 'Geography and Plays' (1922)
Alexandre Coxo’s imagery wanders between contemplative and meditative guided by perseverance in mastery of art technique. It would not be out of place in the mythologies of Prometheus and Orpheus with the duality of stolen fire from the gods and then enchanting them with a lyre. The works on this series are familiar yet personal.
Jacob Bronowski said "...the cave painting is an instrument of chipped stone as much as it is an attempt to control the missing environment and both are created in the same spirit. They are pieces that free man from the mechanical impulses of nature. "
Contemporary Man’s nature is one of emulations based on primative assumptions of varying degrees. He attempts to answer to something bigger than himself, in the process pulling us into his imagination fully of contradictions. A process that invites us to liberate ourselves and seek balance in the contradiction between the authors path and the relective exercise.
