The work of Ângela Ferreira is a kind of mending of history, a eulogy to the heroes of African resistance to colonialism, oppression and segregation. The artist was born in Maputo, Mozambique in 1958 and lived in Cape Town, South Africa during Apartheid. She graduated in sculpture and obtained her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the Michaelis School of Arts, University of Cape Town, South Africa and holds a PhD from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon where she is now an Assistant Professor. She lives and works in Lisbon. In 2007 she was the Portuguese representative at the 52nd Venice Biennale, this being just one of the milestones in an internationally recognised career.
