Série “Super Heroes”
The spectator frequently encounters nearly photorealistic paintings of children's faces in small square picture formats, girls with long, fair hair, in playful moments. Their facial expression is introverted, almost sad… they do not seem to feel observed and still live in a clean-cut world, which gives us only an impression of carefreeness.
Threads play an important role in Sonia Aniceto's works, because they cut deep into neatly painted paintings. The artist uses her sewing machine and a vivid orange string with brute force to spontaneously cross over her compositions, bite into landscapes and do not even shy away from the children's bodies. She adorns them with 'sewn' clothes, races over their heads, the threads always intensify somewhere, change from rush to a bundle of fluff or a sheer muddle, impossible to unravel.
