The Sobral Centeno’s solo exhibition at Galeria Emergentes dst runs from 12th March to 30th April 2016. This exhibition will share with the audience more than twenty paintings of one of the biggest names in the so called school of Porto. Sobral Centeno was born in Porto in 1948, where he currently lives and works. Bachelor of Fine Arts (FBAUP), he was scholar for the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1983-1985) and lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (1987-2006). Next to the 1970’s neoexpressionism, Sobral Centeno focuses his work on the energy, axiological and aesthetic flow of this movement. Detached from realistic intention, this artist’s work does not ignore the contemporary societies’ reality, but reinterprets it through the European, African and Brazilian imagistic filter. One can observe canvases inhabited with symbols like crosses, snakes, masks or stairs. Entitled "Journey through the symbolic", this exhibition seeks an archeology of Sobral Centeno’s universe, showing works from 1998 to 2016.
