Sexual harassment, workplace inequality, transgender issues? These were all on my mind when I created this painting. Some of the feminist artists who influenced me were Miriam Shapiro. Frida Kahlo and Grace Hartigan. I started with a woman and overlaid the symbols of male and female on her, showing that she possesses some characteristics of both sexes. The painting evolved from that of just a female to a symbol.
