The reduction of pictorial elements to the level of immediate perceptual facts was a real necessity in the critical process of modern painting, and one that is linked to the problem of the representation of nature for the evolution of André Costa's art towards a new, independent language, without allusion to the appearance of the world. André Costa proposes a new path, to take forward the critique of visual language and raise a new proposal: form no longer plays the role of figure, but becomes form-object. The figure-ground game is no longer illustrated, it takes place through physical perceptions, not merely visual ones. The form is objective and the representation of the form is found at the same time as the form itself.
