"O Enforcado" (The Hanged Man) is part of the pictorial series "Da Pintura à Ação"(From Painting to Action), a set of paintings in wooden blocks that represent actions and performative situations, as if they were video stills. This work, in particular, represents a resting figure on an abstract space (which gives us no information about it), on which back are darts spiked. Its meaning goes beyond the visible; self-punishment in the theme in focus, that invisible violence that surrounds, chases and ambush as into a corner. However, "The Hanged Man" also means 'renewal' or 'the waiting moment before the change': although the figure appears to be going through a sacrifice and the natural cracks of the wood are cutting off her head, her body posture reveals a total quietness, looking like she's meditating.
