This artwork refers to a series of sculptures of odd swans (‘Swan Thing’) by the English artist David Shrigley. I appreciate the sense of humor of certain artists, mostly when it contains within another dimension. In the case of Shrigley, his black humor usually has to do with existential doubts, with the sensation of absurd and even anxiety. In my painting I used a calmed landscape (the Turia park of Valencia) in an ideal hour of sunset shades, as a contrast to this ‘swan thing’ of Shrigley. I wanted to create a funny sensation by introducing the creature in a way that could be ‘credible’ in the pictorial illusionist world, yet it is totally plane, and the placement, as if it was getting out of the painting, makes no sense either. This painting represents for me some of my general sensations, as well as an appreciation towards different kinds of painting (and of making art).
