The 'Utopia' works were inspired by the birth of the artist's first son. As the artist states, ‘they are called “Utopia” because that is the feeling holding him has...’. In a characteristic way, words fade in and out of the foreground, not fully realized, suggesting the formation of consciousness against the backdrop of a universal human experience like birth. Much like its counterpart, the 'Rainbow' paintings, 'Utopia' calls to mind themes of birth and creation in a very intimate and spontaneous way.
