This work is derived from a small sketch done whilst on a train journey. My train journeys are always notated and some, but not all, become the inspiration for larger work.
The scale of this work is an important and integral part of the process allowing gestural marks in graphite and eraser and a much greater tonal depth.
The fact that the drawing begins at the left-hand edge and finishes with a line dropping out of the image refers to our impossibility of viewing the whole - visually or intellectually.
