As a student of painting, Henrique Lázaro tends to focus on the outer layer of the objects he makes and admire. He trys to map the surface of an object by revealing the particularities which define it. This process can be compared to cartography, palaeography or archeology - it is the search for a humanity mirrored in a physical object. Even though Henrique’s acts upon it today, the canvas has an evocative quality that reminds us of an ancient or maybe primitive form of understanding, which, paradoxically, is yet to come.
Born in Lisbon, he has lived most of his life in Braga and sporadically in several African countries. He has finished his bachelor’s degree in painting in the Fine-Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon.
