Paul Mathieu evokes a reflection on emotions and nature through abstract expressionist painting. His work is amply influenced by great natural and atmospheric phenomena such as wind, water cycle, earthquakes and eruptions. Firm intest brustrokes portray the samurai universe, also deeply connected to nature, besides inspired by a dynamic ethical movement with clear values guiding how to treat martial arts. While recognising Professor Rocha de Sousa as his master, he often draws inspiration from Júlio Pomar for the composition and chormatic equilibrium. Although much of his work is produced in acrylic on canvas and maritime wood Paul Mathieu also explores abstract photography.
"The artist must allow the possibility to dream, opening new avenues of thought."
