An ecotone happens when two ecosystems get mixed with each other. In the middle of this generated tension, some organisms are born that can only survive as long as these two opposing forces are kept in balance. Initiated in 2006, Project Ecotone is the sculptural exploration of this concept. In order to do so, the work is developed between two different materials, both alike in strength, resistance and durability – stone and metal. They are the starting point from which these sculptures are created, allowing me to visually and procedurally express this struggle between two opposing energies. In the beginning of this project, there was a search to try and find the equilibrium between these two materials, but as it evolved, the concern shifted towards the unbalance, the moment where that equilibrium breaks. And so, the stone always ends up losing the battle towards the metal.
