Born in OPorto in 1948, were he lives and works. Graduated in Fine Arts (FBAUP), has received a scholarship from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1983-1985) and was member of the teaching staff in Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico do Porto (1987-2006). Close to neo-expressionism from the 1970's, Sobral Centeno concentrates in his artworks the energy and axiological and aesthetic flows from this art movement. Desingaged from realistic intentionality, his painting doesn't ignore the reality of the contemporary societies, but reinterpret them through an european imagine filter, african and brazilian, populating his canvas with symbols like crosses, snakes, masks or stairs. His artworks are part of several national and international art collections like Modern Art Center from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (portugal); Kunstmuseum Walter im Glaspalast (Germany); Shoes or No Shoes Musem (Belgium); L ́ Unesco La Galerie d ́Art (France); Contemporary Art Institute (Brazil).
