Ana Monteiro is a Portuguese figurative artist whose practice revolves around painting, drawing, and writing. Has a master's in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and a degree in Fine Arts from the same institution, she has exhibited regularly since 2011.
Contemplating the kaleidoscopic characteristics of the "self", her paintings are deeply allegorical: through them, the portrait is used as a symbol, in an attempt to dive into the deepest places of our identity and understand, every step of the way, how frightening is the process of discovering what makes us human - in our relationship with the Other, as a social scenario and, perhaps most important of all, with ourselves. Over the last 5 years has participated in several solo and group exhibitions both in Portugal and abroad, (in cities such as Braga, Porto, Lisbon, and São Paulo). In her artistic project, the painting brings to the fore an intimate and continuous reflection on the notion of identity and its connections with the social environment.
