This painting describes a protest that occurred in Tel Aviv in 2014 against the war with Gaza. It was important for me to not title this painting, but to keep it open for different interpretations. On one hand, I want the spectator to perceive the protest as universal, focusing on the attitudes of the different persons. On the other hand, I used the blue tones and the geometric composition in order to reflect on the aesthetics of the scene, and to be put in a somewhat alienated position in relation to what happens. I try to reflect on the indifference that the mass media news creates, even when one actually lives inside the conflict zone. I was spiritually influenced by philosophers as Theodor Adorno and Walter Benjamin, while treating the political detachment that the capitalist culture creates. The painting itself has some influence of James Ensor and its process was more or less traditional, by accumulating oil layers.
