Lesende belongs to my series "lomopaintings" that stems from the theories of Fukuyama and his "End of History”. This concept, already advocated by Marx, heir to the Hegelian thought, argued that the direction of historical development contained a specific intent by the interaction of forces materials, and would come to an end when the communist utopia is reached. The loss of direction and other fundamental characteristics of Postmodernism as a lack of faith in the political and religious systems becomes, in the artist’s opinion, a general sense of social nostalgia and melancholy. This project links these concepts with the return of past trends, both aesthetically and technologically, and more specifically with the revival of analogue photography. The analogue approach is addressed by the best analogue system known, painting. The project is realized using both a series of oil paintings imitating the aesthetics of the "Lomography" cameras and their image distortions. These works have their theme around vintage aesthetic, olds cafes, or abandoned places in Berlin, which have been adapted for various uses. The “new” old style present in Spreepark, in the old communist factories, or the flohmark are perfect reflections of the taste for nostalgia and the past. The characters portrayed in my work are also charged with that melancholy, are distracted and uncomfortable at the moment, seeking refuge in a more comfortable past utopia.
