The pictorial creation of Ilídio Candja Candja (b. 1977. Maputo), is part of a profound process of introspective self-determination that has long been instigated and theorized as 'art of the African Diaspora', where the roots and experiences of the extensive and diverse mother Africa including its Diaspora find space for their (re)magination, contemporary (re)creation in the field of visual arts and citizenship. Its genesis can be situated among various historical moments, for example, from the socio-cultural and political revolution triggered in the United States of America at the beginning of the twentieth century, specifically in Harlem.
