On the street of Campo dos Mártires da Pátria there is one of the oldest shops with one of the most significant thresholds in Porto, the Casa Oriental, today a canning house. In its origins, Casa Oriental sold products brought from overseas, such as coffee, tea or chocolate. In addition to these products, other indigenous products can be purchased in the store, such as oranges, lemons, cheeses, sausages, Port wine, liqueurs, spices or their star product, cod. It was founded in 1910 as a grocery store. Located next to the Clérigos Tower, it is also well known for its original facade, which is still exposed with a mural painting from the Portuguese colonial era, representing an explorer being served by a native.
