St. Ildefonso Church, oil on canvas 60x60 cms is located near Batalha Square, between the intersection of Rua comercial de Santa Catarina and Rua 31 de Janeiro.
This baroque church was built between 1709 and 1730. The two bell towers were added in 1739.
The main feature of St. Ildefonso is its façade decorated with about 11,000 blue and white tiles, created in 1932 by the artist Jorge Colaço, who also created the tiles of São Bento Station. The scenes depict the life of Saint Ildefonso and parts of the Gospel
