José Augusto Castro painting is a discourse between truth and false. It is a set of successive layers of paint, suggestible for music and sound (with special taste for Leonard Cohen). His works, able to steal without burning the attention of any space, lend the abstract painting strong and full-bodied tones but born in a "fun" way: the final gestures are quick, but preceded by hours of work. Avid collector of pieces of paper, advertising and collages that he does, takes the remains of his own paintings for notebooks or simply paints over.
"Once I was here in the studio and was only spending ink. I stopped and said to myself 'You're not being who you are. You have to paint what you know. "
