Fascinated with the history of medicine, whose early years involved a kind of mysticism and speculation, Lucy Pereira found the space for her unique creations. From this fusion of art and medicine Pereira shapes work inspired by classical anatomical illustrations, that treat anatomy as an unknown space, speculated and not yet studied, exploring the boundary between beautiful and grotesque. Usually working with materials like paper or fabric, Lucy reflects on the physicality of the body along with its fragilities and mutations.
"All my illustrative work is influenced by anatomy, by the history of medicine and how its evolution changed and is still changing our society. (...) The artworks highlight unknown anatomies, speculated and studied as if they were real, and ambiguous aesthetics that explore the fragile border between beautiful and grotesque".
