Jorge Viegas was born in 1970 in Braga, Portugal. He has a degree in electronic engineering from the University of Minho, and works in the research and development of technological solutions.
His perception of the relationship between creative technical thinking and aesthetics led him to explore other forms of introspection and communication. Photography is an excellent vehicle for communication, where science, technology, creativity, aesthetics and art meld into a dynamic amalgam in a state of constant change.
Thus emerges contact with this medium. Monochromatic photography is the main springboard for exploration in the works produced. The absence of colour allows for a narrative separated from the perception of reality, or from consolidated interpretations. Shape, texture, light and emotions play a pivotal role.
The term "(en)visionography", coined by Julia Anna Gospodarau, refers to a photographic style which employs the digital tools available to transpose the creator’s vision into the images captured. Thus the creator is not merely restricted to portraying reality, thereby lending the photographs a personal accent, highlighting his individual experience and vision. This style forms the basis for his most recent works.
He is also interested in alternative processes, in particular contact printing. Improving his skills in this area is enabling him to create a more organic and fluid relationship with his work in progress.
