Fernando Marques de Oliveira is considered as one main agent in the renewal of the Portuguese arts during the 1980s. His work is characterized by the search of a simplified, almost minimalist space, and by a depuration and a sense of balance expressed in an audacious chromatism and a singular texture. Similarly to an architectural project, each of his works is thoroughly planned and combines rigour with geometric sophistication.
He attended the Escola de Belas Artes do Porto and the Watermael – Boitsfort Academy in Brussels, where he lived.
He is presently represented by the Galeria Pedro Oliveira, and exhibits regularly at cultural institutions and galleries, since 1975. He participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.
His works can be found in diverse public and private collections.
