Alan McGowan is a figurative artist whose dynamic brushstrokes, expressive tones and draughtsmanship materialise into romanticism with a neoexpressionist touch. Because he particularly likes the resistance offered by the brush, McGowan prefers using panels as support and working the oil on the surface to achieve natural tones. He has a special interest in the interaction between figures and material and finds inspiration in Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Auerbach e Savill, Rubens, Rembrandte and Titian. McGowan has been awarded with several prizes including the BP Portrait Award, the Thread Needle Prize for Figurative Art and was a semi finalist in 2015 SKY Arts Artist of the Year Award.
