Born in Brazil, Ianara has always been fascinated by fine arts. Her passion for art started early, inspired by her mother's paintings of the beautiful landscapes of Minas Gerais and, later, in the long conversations she had with Minas Gerais artist Amilcar de Castro in his studio next to the office where she worked.
A lawyer, Ianara longed to express her creative side. After moving to Brasilia, at the invitation of a great friend, she visited the studio of Lourenço de Bem where she was hopelessly hooked by abstract art on large surfaces, enrolling in art classes.
She moved to Washington DC where she lived for 10 years and took courses in art and photography at Corcoran School of Art, where she fell in love with texture, collage, and other techniques.
