The duo João Ó (Lisbon, 1977) and Rita Machado (Braga, 1982) are the founders and principal architects of the multidisciplinary architecture and design studio based in Macau entitled Impromptu Projects. The studio develops its practice in architecture projects, ephemeral structures, interior design, intervention in public spaces, and curation projects aimed at the local community, as well as in the study of its social relevance. Its language is marked by an experimental vision that is aware of the current situation of the territory, aiming at the exploration of unlikely places and the involvement of the community and institutions in critical participation of urban space with installations, events, and urban art. The duo’s work was exhibited internationally, including as representatives of Macau at the 53rd Venice Art Biennale and the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2009 and 2014, respectively. Along their journey, they received several awards.
