The general context of Manuel Quintana Martelo's work is based on the dichotomy: figuration-abstraction. It's a way of approaching things, where the wide, ever-present plane determines a space where the communion between the figure and the plane itself defines a link between representation and non-representation. For him, the plane is like a backdrop, supporting a figurative context that gives definition to the projected idea. The need to show a known path and a constant surprise that oozes through the background and comes together to form a new unity with the object, dialoguing and functioning as a guiding thread, in the same way as an attitude towards the act of painting: to go with pause and techniques typical of classicism, and to go with nonchalance and gesturally open to the final surprise, a gestural game, an ultimate and distinct entity.
