"Construction in the Yard" is part of a series of works in which the artist, without abandoning an ongoing geometry analysis, focuses on the most architecture’s decorative elements. The Portuguese tile rests as a backdrop, blue on white and golden motifs referring to the Dutch and oriental porcelain influences. The center of the composition is occupied by a geometry figure that switches the color palette into reds and blacks. It is the fruitful cross between apparently dispersed pictorial elements from which a new plastic universe emerges. This universe is extended in Gil Maia’s work over the following years.
