There are at least two ways to do POETRY.
With the TEXT, verbal or written, that takes the poetry in the leaves of the wind or pages of the book.
With the TEXTURE, the clay or the canvas, that holds it in the mass, or between the threads of the canvas.
The poetry of MARIA HELENA CARDOSO is made of both. It builds the threads of TEXTIL as if they were the axes of a TEXT. The canvas is built on the loom, a long thread. From left to right, from right to left, as if they were the horizontal lines of a speech. Word after word, sequentially. Only then do the second wires arrive. They are the ones who hold the first one, but they can barely see each other: they walk above and below, reveal and hide, they force them to read between the lines. They give consistency to what is visible by becoming invisible.
Maybe there’s only one way to do poetry.
