Francisco Santos began his training at Escola de Artes Decorativas António Arroio, completing the Artistic Training Course of the National Society of Fine Arts. During his academic training, he took the Artistic Draw Course (4 years with model). Both courses were guided by the prestigious artists Sá Nogueira and João Vieira.
In the past, his paintings were figurative expressionist in nature. Over time, the figurative elements began to thin. Now the paintings of coloured lines, wide or narrow, appear as a turning point in his most recent work. Contrasts, calm harmony, balance and tonal beauty characterise these "paintings of lines". The vivid colour palette ranges from strong full-colour tones to the delicate and transparent watercolour values, finding its highest point in an almost "black and white" intensity, applied in parallel bands on the canvas.
