Francisca Sousa’s painting is a reflection of many things: plannings, actions, looks, details ... The painting thinks.
The portrait is constantly in focus as the human figure and the relationship with the body is one of the essential elements of the artwork of Francisca, which extends to the ephemerality of performance and video loop. The painting is a beginning, and also an end.
There is a deep interest in a clean and subtle pictorial technique that also knows storytelling. The portraits have watchful eyes and faces close up in tight compositions. What happened there? What a facial expression tells us? The painting is open to subjectivity.
Francisca Sousa, born in Viseu, Portugal, is graduated in Fine Arts - Painting - by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and attended under an Erasmus program the Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts in London in 2012.
She is currently completing her Master's Degree in Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
In addition to individual exhibitions, with emphasis on a performance at Serralves Library (Porto), Francisca has participated in collective exhibitions at the Curatorial Laboratory of the University of Coimbra, the Lions Gallery and the Almería Museum.
